Cheers,
I did have an issue recently after I fitted the 4.8 mufflers! I scratched my bumper and wanted to remove it but couldnt remove the long 2x Torx 55 screws as these hit the tips!Even tried lowering the mufflers from the hangers ,but still couldnt do it!Had no problem before as there were no tips there!
How do our friends with the 4.8 tips remove these screws on rear bumper???
I ended up cutting mine and put new screws in!The plastic guide inside the tube (see photo) needs to be cut about 5 cms on the bottom so as to allow the screws to be inserted at an angle and now will not interfere with the exhausts tips.

Suggest you do this before you install your 4.4 mufflers so that when you want to exchange them you have no problems.

I havent posted for a while but I am back in to explain the exhaust "Back Pressure" issue that seems to be concerning a few people!
Some are saying in other threads that when they have fitted 4.4.4,6 Remus or other Free-flow silencers, that they have to block one pipe so as to create "Back Pressure and keep Turbo and Engine Management happy"!
Sorry ,dont agree !Any turbocharged car has "back pressure" on the turbo! In the case of the 3.0D ,which has Variable Geometry Turbo,it creates even more back pressure on the turbo!
So any "back pressure" after the turbo is bad for the turbo because it increases EGT(Exhaust Gas Temperatures).Obviously ,all cars need to have Kats and silencers to meet Regulations but on Turbo cars ,the more free-flow your exhaust is,the better for the turbo and performance.
On a 3.0D ,you will loose slightly on take-off with any free-flow silencer but you gain after that! The initial loss of accelleration can be corrected and greatly improved by fine tuning the relevant "map" in the management system.
A much better option than blocking one pipe exit on the free-flow silencer!
Finally, let me just state that the advantages of ,in my case, the 4.8 is silencers on a 3.0D.Remapping with the standard silencers will increase your EGTs and soot, but with the 4,8s you get lower EGTs,less smoke and thus you can remap your management system for more power.
A standard pre-2003 3.0D will make 193 bhp and 460 nm on a reputable Rolling Road(3.0D all make more than the stated 184bhp/410Nms).With 4,8is silencers,Kat and a good remap with hardly no smoke, you can get 235bhp/510 Nms.Good power increase which would be impossible on a car with standard silencers unless you dont mind excessive black smoke and increased EGTs.

powers1,

Do you have a sound clip video of your new exhaust ? It would be interesting for all of us diesel owners to hear that growling V8 sound........

That is a nice looking system,
For the people who are in Australia have a look at this system currently under construction.

It is a hand built system that has been design to work in conjunction with a new performance chip for the BMW.
We will have dyno graphs ready to by the end of the week. This system is in Full Stainless steel.

A six-cylinder diesel isn't going to sound like a petrol V8 no matter what you do to the exhaust and/or mufflers...

I am afraid you are right! However ,with the 4.8is mufflers it sounds more "meaty",while retaining the 6-cylinder smooth exhaust note!
Basically, you will only know ,once you driven one.Unfortunately ,I removed mine so I dont have a audio clip....

3" ExhaustThats 49% over the oem 2.0"!
With standard 2260 turbo???Now, if you fitted a GT3063 turbo...I would understand!
The oem exhaust system isnīt that restrictive at all!You have one KAT/DPF and then just the rear silencers! You should see a 2003 530D exhaust...Now thats restrictive ...4 kats ,2x middle silencers.....
Sorry but that exhaust system is OTT and the middle silencer should really have tapped ends ,not welded!

WHY oh WHY did you do that .
it`s a smelly smokey diesel , that`s the reason the factory pipes spew the smoke to the ground .
why do you want to blast black filth straight out the rear .
