Sound

Hey guys,

I finally got my X back after repairing the Tranny. Today I took her to indy and got appointment on Thursday, have to replace my air sus. airbag and do some other repairs.
Anyway, it has some weird sound coming from engin, sound like tractor has.
Mechanics told me that It's Collector(sorry might be called differently, thats how they call it on Georgian) It's on drivers side below engine somewhere. They also told me that they mainly do BMWs, X5s and its first time they came across that problem.

Any thoughts?

.Nick

You are going to want to post up your specs. Year and motor?

Tractor noise? I am guessing you are referring to an exhaust leak. Most likely from your description its leaking at the point where the header and exhaust system join. This is nothing major.

Yes, I forgot.
It's 00' 4.4l. Yes, Probably from that point... Can it be cause of the head being broken or something like that? To repair that have to go through engine right? Thanks

Most likely just need a new gasket. The gasket I am guessing is where you see the number 1 & 3 in the diagram.

RealOEM.com BMW E53 X5 4.4i Exhaust manifold

If its leaking from gaskets 4 or 5 then that would be quite a bit more work involved.

Not sure what you asking about the head being broken? An exhaust leak should not cause a head to be damaged in any way.

Just have to remove front driveshaft and front fender wells to fully access and replace your gaskets. I had to get my headers re-leveled because they were warped almost an eight of an inch on one side.

Yes, That's what I meant. I meant if the gasket itself could be torn or could have hole in it, that way sound could be coming right from the gasket. but I manly guess It's 4 & 5... very well, thanks guys. I'll take her in on Friday after getting other things fixed on Thursday. Oh, and the problem with my transmission was 1st gear got ripped of somehow and they did some welding on it.
