Mechanical question

I have an '01 X5 3.0. When I press on the accelerator during normal accelaration, there is a high pitched squeal as the car accelerates. The squeal goes away if I accelerate faster. Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be? I have 77,000 miles on it and am trying to avoid going BACK to the dealership again, thank you.

no neccessarily... old belts start to dry and crack and then they screech when they are cold... when they are hot they are pliable again so they quiet down a bit...

the belts are a easy change to diy...

First thing to do is check your belts.
You can perform a simple test to confirm that it is indeed your belts.
-Spray some oil, like WD4O onto to your belts.
-Start you car .
-If the noise temperarily disappears ,its your belts
-If no difference, then it could well be a tensioner as indicated by Vinuneuro
