I have used Color Crafters collision center in Clinton MD (right accross the Wilson bridge from you) for some hail damage repair for my 2010 X5 35d, and I was extremely impressed with their professionalism and good customer service. They were recommended to me by my dealer, Passport BMW.

Sorry to see this happen. I hope they don't total the X.

The X is definitely built tough. My wife backed out of a parking space and T-boned a Lexus.

Result:
Lexus = $2000 damage (paid for rather than go through insurance )
X5 = tiny paint scratch on bumper

My insurance used some OEM parts. The insurance did want to use an OE bumper cover that had been refurbished, but the shop was able to repair mine. They would not pay for a new bumper cover seeing as my car was 8 years old and had 100k+ miles at the time. Apparently, this is typical. I was happy they were able to repair my bumper as the guy at the shop told me the refurbished ones are fine, but sometimes due to the way they sit in storage, they may not line up as good as the original cover.
True. But if you have a good argument why they should use OEM parts, they will sometimes bend. Case in point, when my M got it's rear bumper cover cracked by a guy backing up in a parking lot, I made a case that the car is an M and not a regular 5 series and my insurance authorized all OEM parts to repair the bumper and taillight. A lot depends on the insurance company, the car, and circumstances. The main thing here is to get it repaired correctly and looking as good as new.

My parents got in a reck and it was not there fault. They did have some sore necks and back because they are both around 77 and did get checked out by a doctor. My dad wanted oem parts for his Lexis and some money for the value the car would lose if he went to resell. I think the oem parts cost 300 more but the other drivers insurance would not pay for the oem parts. My dad was going to get it fixed and pay out of his pocket the difference. Instead he called a couple of the 1-800 lawyers and one took his case. I think he ended up with around 15,000 for my mom and 10,000 for him shelf he took out 300 for the oem parts and I think 1200 for the loss in resale and gave the rest to our church. The insurance co could have done the right thing and repaired my dads car the way it was before the accident with an extra 1500 but chose to spend 25000 plus lawyer fees just to fight it. I hope you have better luck and your insurance co is better to work with.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

I decided to end up letting State Farm (other person's insurance) take care of it. They got me into a Rental today and I am waiting for the car to be towed to First Choice Auto Body in Arlington, VA. They seem to be highly recommended along with WagonWork but First Choice was in the State Farm network. WagonWork was also possible but not in the network, although State Farm stated it wouldn't be an issue to take it there either.

Bad news is, I have to wait until July 26th since the shop is backed up. Must be like 50 or 60 BMWs without bumpers sitting there...

Argh.

Hi All:

Regarding pics of other car, unfortunately not. It was towed out while we were there.

Mine was flat-bedded to repair shop.

Question, I just switched over from her insurance (State Farm) to mine (Geico) after learning from repair shop that State Farm was worse in terms of OEM parts. I called the lady at State Farm (claim's person) and she was really rude, so I just switched over to Geico (my policy) so they can go through subrogation and get refunded. What a pain.

Geico seems to be a little bit better in terms of parts, but we'll see. Any pointers to try to get it restored back to the way it was with avoiding after market parts? I've taken really good care of this car...

It's always better to choose your own shop. There is a reason why the other insurance wants to push you towards theirs $$.
If the other person is fully at fault then have their adjuster meet up with your own repair shop to work out the numbers.
