Don't lift them, I gave up on that long ago. My back does not agree to it anymore.

Put the tire in front of the hub. Lower the jack just below where you need it then jack upward slowly until the wheel pops onto the hub. Put one bolt in so the wheelis snug then put the rest of the bolts.

I don't lift 20" wheels. I will kill my back. This is my procedure, which mat not be best:
I raise the car just enough so I can slide the wheel back-and-forth to hub without lifting by hand. Hub is tad higher than wheel insert for hub. I make sure the holes are aligned(see through wheel bolt holes to see they are aligned with holes on hub), before I nudge them using my both feet (with construction grade shoes) on both sides of wheel where it touches ground, to get it on hub. I am siting on (Craftsman C-shaped wheeled garage stool) all along. Then use the wheel hanger to guide to the bolt hole on hub for final alignment. Then start putting bolts.

TriX5 and LeMansX5,

Thank you both for your responses. I wasn't lifting the wheels much (probably less than an 1") but it was the maneuvering of them in the air that was very difficult.

Both suggestions sound good and complimentary. I was using way too much effort to push the wheel towards the hub and lift it too

Lifting the weight of these wheels while sitting on your haunches is a formidable task. More power to those who can, I know I can't, at least not four times in a row for swapping winter to summer and v.v.

Good luck! :-)

I've always gone for the not so graceful sit on ground and use legs to lift the wheel just enough to put it on a wheel hanger method. It's not pretty, your guaranteed to get very dirty, but it's easy and doesn't hurt the back.

Just a quick on the original topic comment, I highly suggest using a jack pad adapter (like our ECS ones found HERE) when using a floor jack with the X5.

I'm in the 'sit on garage floor and use arms and legs' to nuggie the wheel up and on, too...
taking off the 19s isn't quite as diff as picking them up and, aligning them, and putting them on.

Used to be able to just muscle them off/on. Ah, the mid 60s ain't my 50s.

No trouble lifting them. Standard mechanic's practice (if you don't have a wheel dolly) follows. Position the wheel in front of the hub. Use a 2 foot bar slid in 6 inches or so. Lift on the outer end of the bar with your other hand on the top of the tire. Leverage makes it easy to lift and moving side to side positions the tire. If you can't get it on the hub bore try two bars, but I prefer using one.

JCL,

Thanks. So you're just talking about a metal bar like this? Sounds like it'll work.
