jacking up x5
Also checked post on site http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/...points-x5.html and want to know if I use a round jack pad over the square insert point under the car to the rear of wheels whether there will be a problem? Last edited by omodos; 07-09-2010 at 02:46 AM. Reason: wrong |

Yes, you can use that for your jacking point. The pad I use is oversized and I just try to hit it as close to the middle of the pad as possible. A better point to lift your car is at the front center point of the car. Therefore you can just slide 2 jackstands under the jack points and wont have to drag the jack to the other side when done.

thanks for reply so despite the fact that my jack plate will not fit into the square it is safe to jack it up by making contact with surrounding area that includes the rubber.plastic edges of the square?

Yes, you can use a flat pad on the jacking point, but you want to make sure that the weight is on the jacking point itself (the black material) and not on the surrounding area beyond the jacking point (the painted surfaces). Response also in other thread.

thanks JCL this is spot on as an answer to my convoluted question, going to take off each alloy one by one and replace two of the anti rattle clips that i lost, and also paint callipers at same time, should be fun in 35C (95f) heat...

Drink lots of water. I am in 37C today, but not planning on any work on the cars. Good luck.

well it was a long day and I painted the callipers black-satin as red didn't seem to match my silver paintwork, all seems ok, anti rattle clips just popped in with a little gentle persuasion.....

I figured that instead of starting a new thread, I would ask my question here.
I took two wheels off yesterday and put them back using a wheel hanger lug stud (as per picture). While that was useful, I could believe how difficult it was to move the wheels and to lift them onto the wheel hanger lug stud (I used both one and two to see if made a difference)! I'm talking about 20" wheels. Anyone have any good tips or is there a simple tool that will give me some leverage to lift them? Thanks |
