Please post your observations as to whether an X pipe has increased or reduced your power output, whp/wtq.

I am contemplating installing an X pipe on my 4.8iS for increased decibels, but don't want to sacrifice power.

Thanks for your opinions.

Change of sound, nothing else to be lost or gained.

5-6 hp gain with X-pipe install? I have heard of negligible loss.

Lost lots of low end torque with x-pipe on my 4.4. There was what felt like a gain at 4000+, but I tow my trailer at 2500-3500 rpm and couldn't afford to lose that low end grunt. Swapped to straight pipes with an H between them and gained all my torque back.

If the Xpipe is such a good thing, why did the BMW engineers miss that configuration in their design of the exhaust? I think they would know whats best suited for the SAV. Just my $.02

Well I cant answer your question regarding BMW engineers, but here's a snap of the Hartge connecting pipe replacement piece for the e53's equipped with the 4 Liter motor.
