A/C Compressor Fail

2003 X5 3.0 with 50K miles. About two years ago, I was told that my A/C compressor was leaking at the front seal. The recommendation was to recharge and see how long it would last. This summer the A/C completely stopped working. Another mechanic checked and said that the A/C compressor does not engage (He did that bypass/battery test to see if the electricity was going to the A/C compressor. It wasn't).

My question is how much does it cost to change this? Where would I get the cheapest part (two years ago the est. was 770+ parts plus 250-300 labor)? Any ideas?

Thank you,

That price on the compressor is way lower than I can find, much lower than BMW's cost ($1,700+) and any parts site I looked at ($1,200+) You probably already have as low a price as you're gonna find for the parts.

I have bought an OEM NEW a/c compressor from these guys for an old Mercedes:

Air Conditioning Compressor from 1 Air Conditioning | Shop AC Compressor, Condenser, Evaporators and more

Their prices are unbeatable. For example, a NEW OEM compressor for my 01 4.4 would be $365! The bad news is that they say they are out of stock on your 03 3.0. I would try calling them however, as their prices are so cheap, and they are indeed legit.

2003*BMW*X5*A/C Compressor from DiscountAcParts

Never have been below the engine cover on my X5 so I don't know how hard it would be to install. Can't imagine it is much worse than other cars.
