help replacing window regulator

HELP! i am having issues replacing this thing.

Issue #1:

i opened the door up and inside i found the metal piece that attaches to the track broken and laying inside the door seperated from the track.

The window is all the way down, but i realized that had the metal piece not have broken off completely, there is no way i could have removed it from the track to replace the regulator, as it was not lined up with the hole on the track.

in any case i moved on to the second nut (closest to door jam - LHD) so that i can free the window and raise it up manually, but i have no idea how to unscrew the nut as it also is not lining up with the hole in the track.

pic of door panel (cannot see where to unscrew window bolt #2):

pic looking inside door panel (screw is in the middle of the light):

is it possible my window is too low, or is this normal and i need to use a different tool to loosen the nut? i should probably also mention that the door handle is stuck. Hear this is sometimes a related issue.

Issue #2:

the clips appear to be too large for the new window regulator. the clips fit the broken regulator (as far as i know i ordered the correct regulator).

Picture of original with plastic tab still on (bottom):

pic of new regulator with tab appearing too big (notice right corner of plastic tab does not have a place to slide into):

any insight/advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Have you tried plucking the original metal guide and plastic tab and putting onto the new track? Are you sure you got an OEM window regulator?

i didnt know that was possible. i dont think i can anyway because the tabs on the metal piece that hold to the track are broken. I could try the copper wire deal but i dont understand why my new track doesnt fit the black tabs.

this is what i ordered:

Pelican Parts - Product Information: 51-33-8-254-911-M9

Though you bought it from Pelican Parts, it might be a cheaper non-OEM sourced regulator from somewhere like China.

BMW Reset Tool BMW Service Manual BMW parts Hawk Brake pad VSL radiator Audi volkswagen Repair Manual License Plate Key chain zymol P21S

or

getBMWparts.com

I would first call/ask Pelican Parts whether their window regulators are OEM and explain your fitment problems. If they don't give you a satsifactory answer, tell them you want a refund.

thx. even with the corrected part i cannot figure out how to unscrew the 2nd nut so i can free the window and pull it up manually.

my post didnt seem to generate any responses regarding this 2nd bolt/nut so i am afraid i will have to take it to my indy shop. they wanted ~$400 with parts which sucks because i am one freaking nut away from getting this job done. hopefully since i have done half the work they will discount it from $400.

thanks for your help NRA0707

I would try to lift the window glass manually making sure you raise it evenly so that it doesn't catch on anything causing it to shatter. Use enough force so that it will line up with the access hole. If the motor still works, I'd try to raise the window while supporting the opposite end of the glass with your hand.

The window should move up and down the track if you cut the wire of the regulator. Then just use your hand to move the window up and down until you can get to the proper spot to unscrew the window from the regulator. This is exactly how i did mine. I hope it makes sense. Let me know.
