It can happen in any BMW that has seperate driver/passenger side heater controls. It's basically a plunger that stops flow of coolant to the heater core, but if the coolant isn't changed frequently enough and/or people using the wrong type, the plungers get sediment on them and don't create a seal, so the coolant continues to flow when it shouldn't.

Or it could be the stratified air wheel in the vents is set to warm the air from the center vents.

Same thing. I'd see if you can have them replace it for the sake of replacing it anyways, especially since they run about $400 plus labor.

yup - I will. Probably something I would just live with otherwise, since it really isn't necessary to use the auto control, but might as well see if I can get them to do it - especially since they replaced another part of the heater system the aux water pump....

The aux water pump is an integrated part of the heater diverter valve, so hopefully they replaced the whole unit instead of just the pump itself. It could also be the wheel GSXR mentioned, or the cooling system needing to be burped. The M62 can be difficult to get bled sometimes. Most of the time when hearing about customers complaining is when the dash may be blowing nice and cold air, but their feet are on fire. Either way, something isn't acting right in your 7. When that 1 month warranty expires, www.e38.org will be helping you plan your weekends whenever something goes wrong

Nice. They really are fantastic cars to drive. I've never driven the i, but I've driven a few iLs, and when they are in good shape, they are fantastic cars. I prefer them to E65/66 cars.

Any plans for future mods...clear corners, exhaust, DICE, etc?

no - I like it the way it is. Other that I will probably tint all the windows 35% and will remove the front plate and the rear license plate dealer frame. And install a V1 hard mount and wiring for road trips like in all my cars. Otherwise I'm perfectly happy with the way BMW built it.

Seems to me exhaust would be pointless - the whole idea of the car is smooth and refined. Don't get me wrong, I love the hot rod motor sounds in the 4.6is and Corvette, but I don't need that in the 7. It's just not a hot rod like the 4.6is is.
