I changed the oil sensor and drove the car for 1 week in stop and go traffic. So far no check error messages showing so it seems problem is solved.....

So today at a hill and in D i experienced the same thing as you have. The oil light flickering and the message is displayed then when i hit the gas and move forward it disappears. I just wanted to ask if all you replaced was the oil level sensor/sender? I am about to order that parts just wanted to make sure nothing else is needed. Thank You |

Had this happen. I replaced my oil level sensor and it went away.

I encountered the same message yesterday with our 2000 X5 4.4i. It shutdown A/C, wipers, turn signals, etc., but the car continued to run. I brought it back home and turned it off. The rear lights, dashboard lights, and a few others would not turn off. After a while I tried starting it and it wouldn't.
It looked pretty serious because oil level was good and there was no leak from the oil pressure switch or other places. Today, when I started calling some mechanics they all sounded pretty concerned. Then I talked to Mike from BMW Auto Care in Mountain View, CA. He advised to start from the easy stuff first and check the battery. I called AAA battery service and tried to jump start. Initially it didn't do anything, but after about 5 minutes of charging we were able to jump start the car!! So I replaced the battery. The old one was about 4-5 year old. So the moral of the story is to not take these Check Control messages too literally. The problem could be as simple as an old/dead battery. I hope this helps some more fellow Bimmer owners. These are high maintenance puppies for sure...

Guys,
After barely 2 months my X5 has reverted back to the same problem mentioned in this thread. To recap, I thought the problem was solved by replacing the oil sensor. This was good for barely two months as I have encountered the same error messages again.... 1) STOP: Engine Oil Pressure Level ???? ( during stationary D gear) 2) Check oil Level ( when I switch off engine) X5 is going to the shop tomorrow for a check up......

I still have not ordered the part partly due to my laziness but i know there is oil in there because i just did an oil change and 6.5-7 quarts came out. so its definitely the sensor but i m surprised that after 2 months yours is bad again. i need to make time to go under there take out the sensor and see whats wrong...maybe its sludge etc somehow deteriorating the sensors ability to detect...or its leaking into the connection thus kinda shorting it out. either way i still need to order a new sensor. keep us posted I m really curious why after 2 months the new sensor failed or if its something else.

What worked for me was cleaning the pigtail or pin connector with some crc electronics cleaner a few times... The wire side & pin side... Then I put a little hot glue on the wire side of the connection to seal off any moisture... Also I can't remember if there is a rubber seal on the inside of the pin side of the connection... If there is make sure that it is intact...
That did it for me good luck to you all

One other thing to try is simple.
Key in and turn to Pos 2, put your seatbelt on and by that time all the systems should have completed their boot-up and tests, then start the car. Sometimes if you catch the systems at the wrong moment they can throw spurious errors. I do this all the time now and very, very rarely get a warning about Oil, or Air Suspension - another favourite.

Got back my car yesterday and indie shop cleaned and tightened oil sensor part that was previously replaced. so far no check error messages under heavy traffic conditions. I will observe car for the next few months and hopefully this problem has been solved......
