X5 Slowly Falling Apart

I seem to have problems with my X5 that no one (or at least none of the forums that I have read) seem to be had by many other owners! I am looking for help on some of these issues so I am just gonna list off the issues I am having with my X5..My X is a 2002 4.4 Sport Package with 90,000 miles on it.

1) I am having the problem with my rear suspension. Frequently but not every time my passenger side rear will be much lower than the rest of the car, this problem is solved every single time when I proceed to press the unlock button on my key the right side slowly rises back up to what appears to be a normal height. Only once have I been prompted with the "Self Leveling Suspension Inact".

2) My Driver seat memory has become inactive..the Red Light comes on when I hold down the M key but I cannot seem to get it to save any of the settings or recall to previous settings. Not only that but randomly about once a month the controls on my seat with do the direct opposite of what I am pressing..for instance when I press the seat back forward, it will recline and so on and so fourth. I have checked and replaced the fuses with no luck there.

3) My X has stopped the "chirp" that it used to do when I would lock the car, as well as the alarm has become a silent alarm only flashing my lights. Also the alarm goes off randomly without a reason, and sometimes about 10 times in an hour. Many nights I wake up to my X5's lights flashing outside my window at 3 am and I turn off the alarm, lock the car only to have this cycle keep on going about 10 times with a minute or so in between.

Any help with these issues will be great..thanks!

Ok I will try that and post the results. When disconnecting the battery temporarily I just disconnect the NEGATIVE one correct?

Re: Self-levelling problem: The airbag in the rear suspension might have a leak, allowing the vehicle to drop on that corner. If it comes back up when you unlock the doors, your pump and level sensor is working. Does the X5 sit level when you park and shut it off? I would inspect the bag and lines on that low side.

or it could be the hood sensor just do a search bout the alarm. Most people disconnect that and its all good. eventually ill buy a new sensor but for now its find disconnected.

Rick,
1. search for "Self Leveling Suspension Inact" on this board, looks like it's leaking.
2. no clue but maybe related to #3
3. I've seen so many BMW with weak battery doing this, my friend recently acquired an Z4 which set of the alarm at random until the battery is replaced before the symptoms disapear.

When is the last time you change the battery?

Good luck.

Weasel will become famous soon enough
There is also an "alarm trigger counter" that can be read out through GT1/dealer diagnosis to see what triggered the alarm. Likely a funky hood switch.
