I didn't either. In fact I am half way throufh it now on the Driver Side. Just about to go out to the shop and finish the job. Have the Bently manuel and a good night'd sleep.
In my case I am attemting to correct an extreme negative camber (out of spec. > -2.0 degres) situation. I beginning to suspect that this car went on a used car offroad joy-ride between last registered owner & me. Found BOTH rear shocks blown when I got in there. Fortunately, all of the CV boots look good. And the air bags look good. That tower that the bags fold around needed the rust & grit wiped away though to prevent premature wear of the bag. Hit it with some 303 Protectant also, along with all of the CV Boots. (See my thread in this forum entitled, "CV Boot Protectant. Does it Exist?") Finished the front Suspension Ugrade last week. After today I will check alignment to see if replacing both upper rear arms does the trick. will test for that PITA lower ball joint that requires the $200.00 press to remove. Learning-as-I-Go here. Best to ya, |

Sorry to bump a three-year-old thread, but has anyone found an online DIY? I have a rear upper control arm completely unbolted, but can't get it out. Not sure if I need to remove the shock, or compress the spring, or what. Any ideas?

Already did the ball joints on mine to get rid of the -2.0 degree neg camber in the rear... didn't help my situation out, so now I'm looking into using some 5 series adjustable bushings in the rear upper control arms...
![]() I'm know... sneaky, right?

I did the rear control arms on pnoybmw's x5...
Its a simple yet involved process and if you dont have the right tools it wont happen.. All of this rides on jacking/lowering the car, while fitting a jackstand underneath where the bottom of the bag/spring perch.

Are you talking about the thin one which is called interal link or guide suspension link? If yes, then you must do wheel alignment after replacement.

Guide link controls the toe, we are talking about the wishbone and the ball joint pressed in the wheel carrier, two most common items on rear for inner tire wear.
Regardless if you replace the guide link, the ball joint, or the wishbone, wheel alignment should be performed afterwards.
