This is the kit I have installed on my X,haha not exactly $2 bucks, but yet less expensive than an OE retrofit.
Anyway,to OP,in the control box, when you unscrew it,you'll find 4 adjusters with screws, one for each sensor, just play with it,so it gets a bit less sensitive to the pavement.I was able to find the point of almost no useless beeping.

Here we go
You have to remove the rear bumper.Wiring the control unit to back up light didn't throw any codes,it uses just 5 watts or so.
Drilling wasn't as easy as it seams,I had to drill the holes in the steel bumper core,PITA w/out proper crown bit(metal capable).
The main reason I retrofitted this is because I was to remove the rear bumper to straighten it,since I backed up into the post,so it was about a time to get my back watched after.
Just love the warning the way it works.I decided to go with no display version, beeping gets more intensive in frequency as you approach to the object and keeps my sight uncluttered from unnecessary blinking stuff in front of me.

Also, while the bumper was out,I used an opportunity to remove the rust from the hitch and surrounding areas with some brush and rust convertor, paint it with the rust resistant paint.Neater look for few more years.
