Speaking of mirrors, here is the coolest thing you will see for a long time to come:

Sideview Mirror without blind spots
Quote:
But a math professor from Drexel University in Philadelphia named Andrew Hicks has designed a curved mirror that eliminates most of that blind spot, using a mathematic algorithm that increases your field of view from the current standard of 15 to 17 degrees to an astonishing 45 degrees without distorting the image.

To achieve the design without the fun-house or fish-eye effect, Professor Hicks's patented design is similar to a disco ball with tiny individual mirrors precisely directed using his algorithm, so that each ray of light bouncing of the mirror shows a wide yet undistorted view.

The ones found HERE are for cars with Auto-Dip (self dimming) and do not have heat

Great video, thanks..
unfortunately, the singles are Not for the auto dip?
I -seem- to have the cold weather package as I have heated seats, but I'm not really sure if I have heated mirrors. I -Do- have the auto-dip but don't really need it if it can save me waiting until October for delivery, just don't know what problems I might experience, codes or otherwise.

Apologies if this is too specific for all, but I know I've had some trouble determining what I need to buy to replace my blotchy original mirror.

Those are some crazy prices! And I don't think that BMW oe either!
The way to find out if you have heated mirrors if you have two wire connections going to the mirror. And auto dimming feature is another connection, which is a plastic molding going around the mirror To another connection inside. And I have my new mirror installed. With just the heated function hooked up. (no dimming) I just left that connection unplugged. And no codes. Functions properly no problems.
And I have the winter cold weather package. But I think the e53 may have come with a standard feature of heated mirrors. It's is a German engineered BMW after all.

Heated, aspherical, light blue tint. New driver side mirror for e53. ($30 shipped in the US) pm me.

that is the keyword - blue tint... if the mirror is auto dimming, than the color of the glass is regular, just like a regular silver glass mirror - it turns blue under voltage... if the color is blue tinted, then the mirror is non -auto dim...

another way to check, if the main mirror in the cabin has a "hidden eye" inside the mirror and no manual ability to tilt for the glaring lights from behind - it is auto-dimming...

take a flashlinght to the center of the regular mirror and shine some light onto it - if the all three mirror turn blue, you've auto-dim...
or...

what are your last 7 digits of the VIN - i can look up to see if those mirrors were installed from the factory...
