I -seem- to have the cold weather package as I have heated seats, but I'm not really sure if I have heated mirrors. I -Do- have the auto-dip but don't really need it if it can save me waiting until October for delivery, just don't know what problems I might experience, codes or otherwise.

Apologies if this is too specific for all, but I know I've had some trouble determining what I need to buy to replace my blotchy original mirror.
CWP included headlight washers and heated seats and the ski pass through in the rear seats' arm rest. These options were available separately, but they cost less as a group in CWP, so it is more common to see them together.

Premium package is where you get things like auto dimming rear view mirror and side mirrors. It also included dual climate, leather seats, and some other stuff. My mother in law's 2001 3.0 is a non-premium sport-package and CWP car. When road debris knocked out her side mirror, the shop replaced it with a dimming (electrochromatic) version. Since I had replaced her rear view with the auto dimming one from my E39, her driver's side mirror now dims!

As far as I recall, heated windshield washer nozzles and heated side mirrors have been standard on most BMW's for some time. I think you'll find you can't buy an E53 side mirror glass that *isn't* heated.

As for the retrofit and codes, you won't find any. The dimming mirror's only interface to the LCM is 'active' when the lights are on, and 'inactive' when they're off or the transmission is in reverse.

I replaced the glass in my e39 with dimming, aspheric glass and then waited for two years (maybe three) before I ran the wires to my rear view mirror. It wasn't pre-wired. They now dim at night when the lights are on and the sensor on the rear view detects light brighter than the ambient light in the cabin.

Hope that helps.

much thanks all. I misunderstood the auto-dip, thought it meant the parking thing, no auto-dim here (dunno if it was offered in '01, have the prem pkg)

Looks like the heated single will work (thanks alex, but need passenger).

It's only ugliness(brown blotches on top of mirror) but it drives me crazy as I'm hooked on the fwd, fwd, fwd, fwd, mirror, mirror, mirror, repeat forever vision habit, heheh. 'bit OCD, me.

Heyyyy.. ya know.. if I decide to get the aspherical passenger mirror, I might just have some OE glass sitting around doing a whole lot o nuttin. If you have an auto dimming (electrochromatic) rear view, the glass from my '04 should dim when your rear view does. Interested?

Prices are based off BMW Europe cost structure, they are genuine European BMW mirrors.

Yes, pics from the OP showing the e53 aspheric side view mirrors installed would have been nice. It's never too late...perhaps someone will dig this post up in the future to add pics from an e53...until then I guess the pics posted of the e39 M5 will have to make due...

Just an FYI for those searching for this info that may come across this thread in the future.

Favorite mod ever! Makes driving, switching lanes a lot safer and more predictable. They are just so damn expensive!

I have the 2000-2006 driver's side heated aspheric mirror for sale. After reading this post hoping to do this upgrade, I picked it up from Alex77ae on this same thread but never got to install it after I found out I have the auto dimming feature on mine, which meant an extra harness plug connector on the back of the mirror.

The mirror is flawless and a perfect drop in install by the looks of the back tabs. $30.00 shipped. Please PM me if you need it.

Thanks!

I picked up two auto dimming, heated asymmetric mirrors used from Europe on eBay for less than $300 total. Well worth it.
