Auto start on your X5

Do any of you guys have auto start in your E53?
If so what are you running and how well dose it work?
Let me know,I'm thinking about doing a Viper piggy back system that leaves my stock alarm and just a dedicated auto start.
I was thinking viper smart start for iPhone and such.

do new bmw models come with auto-start? it seems most cars do now, and thats one of the things i would enjoy.

Just installed a Viper 4103 in my Nissan Pathfinder. Leaves the factory alarm fully intact. Keyless entry works both ways(factory remote and stock key remote)

Don't do it. You'll regret it this winter when your ccv valve freezes up. When it's cold let the rpm's drop and drive slow until it warms up. Hopefully you have seat warmers bc i unfortunately don't If you read the manual it says not to let it idle and drive away as well. I wait about 30 sec personally and, knock on wood, I haven't had the honor of dealing with an oil separator failure yet. You should see the posts on ccv failures start in about a month or so...Just my 2 cents

i think auto start is fine provided you dont start, let it sit for more than 10-15 minutes, then get in and hammer on it. you still need to warm up the mechanical parts not close to the pistons... just be smart and i'm sure auto start is fine.

i do no not have one but do go out and pre-start my car... just dont want to put an auto start in as i am saving for my next transmission... haha no no just saving for more important things. i would go all out with auto start and phone app, that would be sweet.

You guys are missing the boat; these are not diesel trucks that idle all night in the truck parking lot. Allowing your cold started car, of any brand, to sit and idle for several minutes, or 10-15 mins, is absolutely crazy, imo.

No one posting in this auto starter thread is parked in Barrow, AK or the Northern Territories. Jesssh H Murphy, put on a coat and some gloves, start the car, let idle for less than a min, turn on the seat heater, and drive away gently.

Completely.

It is very dated thinking to believe that any idling of a cold engine isn't destructive. Also, where I live there is a three minute limit on idling (city bylaw). That 15 minutes could get you four tickets.

If you can't handle driving a cold car, get heated seats and a heated steering wheel.

Wow a bylaw.. my wife would be a repeat offender she lets her maxima idle all the time and uses remote start. I wish i had a auto start on my beamer. But as everyone on here says its a bad idea. Its crazy all other luxury and midgrade cars have it now.. Why not a beamer grrrrrr. I miss my 06sorento...
