Code Reader stuck in Plug!

Hello all, new member here. I have a CPO 2006 X5 4.4, 54,000 mi, purchased a few months ago, and have put on less than 2000 mi. Saturday my "service engine soon" light came on, but the vehicle runs great.
Today, my boss (trying to be helpful) plugged in a OBD reader. The codes were P0300 general missfire, what ever that means. That is not the immediate problem, however. We can't pull the reader out of the plug. It appears to be locked in somehow. Any ideas on this?

Misfires mean you need to get it fixed. In the meantime, pull harder. Some readers have a bit of a lip on them to keep them in place, so quit being so shy with it.

As a CPO X5 the problem should be covered. My 4.4 was misfiring too, ended up being a $3000 intermediate lever fix under CPO warranty! Get it done!

I got a CEL today too and rushed out to buy a code reader. I got the Actron PocketScan and getting out out was a bitch.

I thought at one point that I would rip the entire lower dash out as I could see all of it moving. The sounds of breaking plastic - although I could see no damage after - was also heartstopping.

At another point, I started getting the entire indash plug moving and it felt like it would rip out too. I think before I use this reader again I might deform or break the section of the plastic lip (on the reader) that locks it in place - I can hold it in place if I have to.
