Noise from Heater...

Hello Everyone...

I have 2001 3.0. It’s been great until few weeks ago…

I've been hearing couple of weird noises every time I turn on my heater (after vehicle is warmed up)

Noise is in low tones and only way you can hear it is when you are standing still.

1st noise... I hear fan humming noise. It sounds like someone is cutting a wood with chain saw in far distance.

2nd noise... I hear continues double thumping noise just like a heartbeat. To describe thumping noise, it a sound when you change fan setting from Dash Vent to Floor Vent. (That thumping & cracking noise when it changes the Vent)

I only hear these noises when I turn on the Heater. I hear the noise if I turn on the A/C as well...

Recently I changed A/C fan belts and problem was there even before I changed them.

Any one has same experience...?

Any suggestions or help will be appreciated....

Question Similar Issue

Wish I could help with you're issue... I have one like it. After X is warm the blower motor makes a squeel noise like belt slipping. Slow the blower motor down the noise goes down. Turn it off the noise goes away. It only does it in heat. Turn A/C on and all is quiet.

2003 3.0i, 117,000 miles... runs great, all OEM no MODS.

1,The fan humming noise is bad FSR.
2,Bad blower motor makes a squeel noise like belt slipping

I have the same model X5 and mine has just recently started doing this!

"2nd noise... I hear continues double thumping noise just like a heartbeat. To describe thumping noise, it a sound when you change fan setting from Dash Vent to Floor Vent. (That thumping & cracking noise when it changes the Vent)"

It is only on when the heat or a/c is on, if i turn it off completly it is gone. It sounds like it is coming from the middle center vent, but hard to hear.

Any ideas? It can't be FSR as i replaced that 2 years ago with the updated p/n.

my blower fan squealed for a few seconds and then stopped completely .
new fan blower and fsr will cost £400 fitted at a BMW dealer . 5 hour job .
diy parts will cost around £100 , take more than 5 hours , entire dashboard and centre console needs to be removed .
dealer is the easier option , don`t mess about with winter upon us .

sbahng , maybe your fsr is the only problem .

could this be covered by CPO warranty?
FSR might not but how about the HVAC thumping or blower motor?

If you are lucky its the FSR. But if you are getting the squeal or humming noise is the blower motor starting to die. I just replaced mine and I would say its' a 6-7 hour job, but I could do it in 4-5 now. Not that difficult but tedious. There is alot of things that have to be removed. A bentley manual is a must. If this scares you don't even try. I replaced mine on Monday.
