Anyone buy a rebuilt x5 transmission from European Transmission in Georgia?
It's a 2001 with 99k, owned it for about 8 years and have put over 50k on it. All scheduled maintenance is done religiously. Long story short, losing reverse slowly. It works with no throttle applied, but when you give it any gas it does not engage. Don't want to put in a used transmission, a new(rebuilt) one from BMW is out of the question expensive, but I found a spot in Georgia, European Transmission that rebuilds/refurbish European cars transmissions. They send you a new one tested and with a 12 month unlimited mileage warranty. You just send them your old one. Any one use them? thoughts? Any other advice or experience would be appreciated Thanks Last edited by racecarjohnny; 11-23-2010 at 11:53 PM. |

A bro-in-law owns a tranny joint in NJ, but he does not do any warrantied trans for 12 months; in his opin, it is almost like here's your part, good luck, in terms of the short duration. He does a few BMWs of varying species per week, and offers several levels of warranty and a couple options of what the "new" trans is, but no warranty as short as 12 months.
He does not ship; only does work in house, and I am not soliciting as he is as busy as a one legged man in an azz kicking contest, but that is his opin on a "one year warranty trans", fwiw. GL, mD

12 months is a terrible warranty, imo. 2+ years at a minimum. I'd go with the having your tranny rebuilt route...while you're at it, be sure all sensors are replaced, torque converter thoroughly inspected along with oil pump.

just to keep this alive, I ended up purchasing a rebuilt transmission from 1 Stop in Arizona. They were easier to buy from than European and they take credit cards. Should get it next week and will update this post after it gets installed.

I recently had my transmission replaced w/ a rebuilt a few months ago. It came with a 12 month warranty (parts and labor). It's been 6 months now and no problems.
Not sure if you will be replacing the tranny yourself or from an Indy - But, just make sure to use OEM filters. I had some issues with the X making "whining noises" when accelerating, till I found out from this site that it could be the filter. |
