I have an eBay bluetooth module. It will sync with your computer or smartphone and allow you to search codes and also reset them. It was worth the $30 I spent on it, but I wouldn't pay much more.

You can either get a common cheap dual K line cable and convert it to work with the bimmer, or get one of those cables saying "it work with INPA".

OBD Bluetooth Diagnostic 327 Scannner OBD2 scantool B05 - eBay (item 300498608548 end time Dec-02-10 13:56:00 PST)
I know a lot of people on this board may look down on these, since it's true you get what you paid for. But I paid very little. -Cyrus
