I have to say, if you're thinking of having them powdercoated anyways then there is no harm in trying to sand the front surfaces. Should be quick too.

Try for the brush steel look. Get some very light sand paper and sand in a straight line emotion only. If it turns out like crap, then off to powder coat.

I would paint then either alpine white (colour coding) or matt black. Black looks great on white X5's. I personally prefere the polished look to plane silver.

Heres my best idea, right now they are sitting in my garage because its winter time. I think when i put them back on, i will take another good hard look..maybe i wont do anything. i'm thinking of doing a dark powdercoat. Maybe i can get some good advice at the annual stamford meet!
decisions decisions decisions!

Use fine wet sandpaper 600 to dull the surface
I think the wheels are fine, but respectfully in my humble opinion they don't match the E53 in two ways. They have the "turbine" look, which in my opinion is the "elegant" look that fits slim, discrete limousines - but the X5 is more a powerful "Hulk" kind of car. Second: they have a lip, which makes them a bit out of style with the car, makes it look older. Cars from the 80's and 90's often fit with lips, but newer cars seldom do. I think you should replace the rims with 21" five spoke concave rims without a lip. Something reminding of style 87. But that's just my opinion. |

Hmm ... they look fine as is to me.
If it gets too expensive to do a change up just get some new wheels! |

Thank you! i may just keep them as is. I think after a winter of running 18s, just putting the 20s back on will put a huge smile on my face. Spring break cannot come soon enough
