Just my $0.02! My personal experience (which I'm not implying is the norm) is that the X5 costs about $2k a year in repairs (not maintenance), most of which would be covered by an aftermarket warranty. Again that's just me and I wouldn't be suprised if there are people with 4.6is models that spend 1/2 as much and people with 3.0s that spend 2x as much.

And then some of us will spend way less than 1/2 of that mythical $2K figure. Like I spent maybe $200 in actual repairs not including maint over the last 1.5 years I have owned my 4.6is. I spent far more on my wife's 03 Mazda in fact, and it has similar miles on it. And I completely agree that the warrantee company is going to come out on top more often than not, just like the casino in Vegas. That is the business model, and they factor in actual repair costs and claims over a large group when determining their rates and since they are a profit driven business, I would not bet on them getting it wrong. That said, warrantee can be useful for a personal situation making it easier to predict repair costs and limit exposure to loss, but the odds are what they are.
I did spend a lot more on gas for the 4.6is vs. the Mazda tho.. Go figure that, eh?
To the OP - congrats and welcome to another Estoril 4.6is to the board!!
My favorite E53 color too, followed very closely by Imola and Lemans.
