The only light for the battery I found was on the battery and mine was out and even after charge was out. It's supposed to go yellow if bad and green if good.

just had mine changed 2 weeks ago as well, had a few lights pop up, none were saying anything about the battery, but i knew from past posts that as the battery goes it usually causes all kinds of weird little code throws or quirks

Mine is going on 5 years and I know its failing. It's discharged rather quickly and after being parked in the cold for a few hours, gives me a not so easy crank. I'm debating replacing it as we're not even in the middle of winter yet but I also want to trade the car in. I believe I can use the same battery in the E70 but unless I purchase the E70 and not trade it in (which is unlikely), i will have bought a new battery for the dealer. Which is near blasphemous.

What batteries do you guys recommend other than OEM?

Thank you in advance.
Pages of Threads here, on battery brands, DIY, etc...
Here's one I started, with add'l excellent info posts in the thread:

And, many like DuraLast from Autozone, Werker or Rayovac from Batteries Plus, etc., Sears batts, etc.
Depends on what you have available in NYC area. Be sure it's the proper amp hr, CA, CCA, etc. as your orig battery.
And, hopefully it is fully & slowly charged when you buy it.
Cake DIY, on a sunny, warmer day, in less than 30 mins.

Regardless, my point is the X should have given me some warning right? Or am I assuming wrong?
I would hope it would. I also have a W211. These have an aux battery in the hood, I got a warning message on my dash (big red battery picture and writing telling me to visit workshop) I assumed it was the rear main battery. I was wrong. The tech told me that Mercedes has that warning for aux battery but not main battery I would think the main one was more important!!!!

Mine went about a month ago, just shy by 3 months of being 7 years old. And there was no warning, went to start it one morning and all these funky dash lights and then nothing.

I got the 900 cca Interstate brand battery; installed at about about $230-ish I believe. Interstate warranty is really great and my indy uses them exclusively. 85 month warranty - from Interstates website - "Within 30 months of the date of original purchase, batteries with a total warranty of 85 months will be replaced free of charge (except for taxes and legislatively-imposed fees, where applicable).*" Then warranty is pro-rated.

I knew I was on borrowed time tho....was just fainting at the replacement cost.

Battery Replacement Pics

Plenty of DIYs done for this so not meant to be one. Here are some pics of the old one, new one, and some tips.

Old battery seems to be the original BMW battery. Bought the 2004 X Oct 2008 - is now Dec 2010. Sorry for the crappy cell pics.

Original battery (white) next to new battery (black)

Original battery made in the USA

Original battery specs - 90AH & 720 CCA

New battery is World Source One and made in the USA - 100AH & 900 CCA. Cost $137 including tax. Pro-rated warranty which I can't remember but I think was either 48 months or 60 months. Was trying to use an Interstate MTP-93 but the shop couldn't get it today and I couldn't wait.

Found a piece of black rubber/plastic at the bottom near the battery hold down. It has a reinforcing metal in it (look at the end). I don't know where it came from. I put it back on the bottom of the battery hold down clamp.

Found the lock clip loose under the battery hold down. I tried to put the battery hold down and align it with the clip just sitting in the battery well. After several frustrating tries, figured out that its supposed to hold the battery hold down clamp like in the pic. DOH!

New battery installed. This battery came vented on both sides so I used the supplied plug on the other end and just connected the old vent tube. Pic of the original battery installed (white).

You only need a 13mm socket to loosen 2 bolts and 2 nuts for the brace above the battery (mine also holds the air compressor). The nuts on the battery cable and the head on the battery clamp down uses 10mm.

Afterwards, clear the yellow triangle 4x4 light by turning the steering wheel completely left then all the way right.

Oh .. some pics with the new X6M wheels and Vreds.

Thanks! While I do prefer the looks of the M5 reps that I had on prior, it seems just as many people like these X6M reps too.

I'll have to update my sig with new pics.
