I have a 2005 4.4 and just called the dealer. Gave them my VIN and he said that my truck wasn't part of the open recall. Looks like 2004 only or Bob Smith BMW doesn't know yet.

Got my letter for mine 1/13/2011. Says it'll take a day to do...and no loaner car from my dealer, just shuttle van hell. EDIT "I called my dealer and they had no clue about the recall. They are making sure that they have the software from BMW before scheduling me in".

Naz, just an update to see if you had your reprogamming done yet? If so, how long did it take? I dropped off my X5 at Hassel BMW yesterday to have the recall taken care of, have a NYS Inspection and to just overlook the oil seperator due to the cold weather. Hassel BMW told me that they are having issues with the programming device/computer? (something of that nature) and that it won't be ready by the end of the day. Now it's Saturday and I feel it won't be ready today either. I also have to throw in that I need a new valve cover gaskets (have 59,000 miles on the x5). I'll see how that pans out and if the price is decent, i'll have them do it or decide to take it to my indy.

Dropped my 4.8is at BMW North Scottsdale this morning at 7:30am and picked it up at 1:00pm all done. I was quoted 6 hours to complete the work by my SA.

I even got a complimentary 328i loaner car (I'm way out of warranty). They also programmed some options, enabled my bluetooth and updated my audio software for free while they had it.

I haven't had time to see exactly how the vehicle is different but it seems to not shift up as unnecessarily while accelerating from a stop.

I have a baseline of 19 mpg combined before the service so I will see if it changes (I doubt it will change much, if any). I did notice that the slight stutter when firing it up is gone; it just growls to life, as it should.

BTW, mine has 45,000 miles.

Just picked up my X5 this evening with the reprogramming. SA told me a few things...

He said it'll take a few days till the computer "reads" your driving style and eventually will adapt. Anyway, the X5 shifted a little smoother than before. I was able to take her through some local streets then was able to open her up on the highway. All in all, not really much of a difference. Maybe it'll improve gas mileage?

Got my letter last week. Local dealer said it only changes some communication parameters and does not alter shifting or engine mapping. Any changes noticed would be from the ECU and TCU adaptive values being reset.

Mine goes in next week.
