What's going on with my tire wear- rears are wearing out in the middle?

32-35 its not enough to ruin those tires. it looks like he is running 80 psi in them.

When I have gone to the dealer to get work done (no matter which dealership), I often have to let air out of the tires when I get it home. They often overinflate.

It's definitely NOT overinflation. I run 32psi on my staggered 19" and have the same issue with the Michelin Latitude. I didn't have any problem on my previous Bridgestone Turanza or Pirelli Scorpion, even when I was running at 35-36psi. It's most likely a problem with Michelin I'm going back to Pirelli and will plan on keeping it at around 32-33psi this time. I'll keep an eye on it to see how it'll wear.

dkl you are correct i had that problem with mine too. I switched to the toyos over a year ago and have had no issues with them

Unfortunately, I agree with that.

Wonder if that's why the E70 4.8iS wheels went to 10" and 11" wide (and, if the 11" 315mm guys are having similar issues). If history repeats itself regarding center wear, I might look into 295/40/20. That or go from 10.5" to 11" by widening or to a different wheel.

its normal wear for high speed driving on these wide rears. i think tire is not supported in the middle has damarial and latitude many sets 19 and 20 happened on all of them i drive many miles 80 mph daily 100--200 mles.. try prielli but i think is wide tire issue on small rim

Tge rear diamaris looked a lot like that when I got my 4.8iS. I put another 4000 miles on and they were completely gone in the middle.

Recently I got some used 315 Michelin Latitudes and they are also quite a bit worn in the middle. Seems an odd problem with the Frenchies. :-)

Are you ensuring the tyres are at the correct temperatures when you do a pressure check? If both the tyres are cold, and the ambient air temperature likewise then you will overinflate tyres which will lead to the centre strip wearing out.

For those who can deal with the math......

I've always run my Diamaris at the recommended pressure (2.2bar = 31.9psi [32psi for most of us]), and never seen the effect you have, but I have seen it on overinflated tyres where the pressure guage used for inflation was under-reading, or the wrong ambient temperature was used and not corrected for.

Hi, can't help with tyre wear on the michelins but I have 315 Toyo Proxes rears on staggered 20" BMW rims, I've done 11K miles since buying the X with these tyres fitted & so far the tyres are wearing evenly.
As suggested by others, pics would suggest over-inflation. ( I run mine at recommended 32psi ) although I always check them as last time it was in for some work my local garage said they were under-inflated & he'd corrected them for me FOC, when I checked them he had inflated them to 40psi !! I'll aks him not to bother next time.
