If it is a lemon that was purchased "as is" then it doesn't matter, it is his lemon.
To the OP: Get it checked out. Get an estimate to repair it. Decide if you want to fix it (and it may be expensive). If not, sell it now. As is. And don't represent it to be anything but what it is, an opportunity for someone to buy a fixer-upper.

My X broke within 8 days of buying it. I made the mistake of trying to work around the dealership that sold it to me. I should've had it towed there right away. The mistake cost me about 3 weeks of not having my car.

we've had this discussion about as-is before on here. i was a used car dealer in CT for 20 yrs. as-is sales for more than $2999 still had to have a 30 day warranty. im sure he paid more than 3k for it. only way to sell a $3k + car with no warranty was as salvage. i don't know the other 49 state laws. also there is a 48 hr return for any reason law. that's just 2 things to look into.
someone here should go into the x5 tranny business |

That sucks balls. It sounds like you've signed all the paperwork officially abolishing them of any responsibility. I would suspect the CEL was obviously on because of the transmission slippage storing a fault code. It couldn't hurt to atleast try for something and approach the salesman in a direct, yet polite manner and explain what's happened. What was this 300 dollar sensor he was speaking of? I try my best to hope that salesman don't knowingly screw locals so badly but who knows. It does sound like they were very upfront about the fact that the vehicle hadn't even been inspected pror to sale. I hope you at least got a great deal on the X5.
There's a saying a guy I used to work with told me one time that was related to Mercedes- "There's nothing more expensive than a cheap Mercedes" Of course that would apply to BMW As well. Again, I hope you got it dirt cheap since they apparently didn't put any money into refurbing before resale. Sounds like they just stuck it out on the lot. Sounds like you'll be dropping some serious cash soon. Maybe you can appeal to some good natured intention on their part and at least get something out of the deal. Good luck.. -Ben |
