power steering rack and wheel bearings

I brought my 2006 X5 4.4i to the dealership complaining of steering noises at 40k miles, and they replaced the power steering rack. I brought it back a couple of months later complaining of different steering noises, and they replaced the front wheel bearings. This was all warranty work. Should they have automatically done an alignment after that work was done? I didn't know to ask for one, and they didn't volunteer.

Maybe not after the wheel bearing. But definetly after the steering rack replacement.

Thanks Barry. The dealership didn't do an alignment. I bought new tires 2 months after the power steering rack was replaced. 5 months after that, I found them to be worn to the metal on the outside, meaning a bad toe-in problem. I bought 2 more new tires and paid for an alignment ($900), since the warranty expired after the steering rack replacement.

I am going to take this up with the dealership, and am trying to make sure I have all my ducks in a row. Any tips?

May I ask what noises you were experiencing? Im trying to pinpoint my noises.

The tie rod ends are what attaches the steering rack to the wheels. That is where the toe adjustment is accomplished. If you replace the steering rack you have to check the toe adjustment to make sure it is within specifications.

i would be amazed if they didnt do an alignment as part of the job,, but then i am being amazed alot more that i used to be
