Sounds to me like your abs module has gone bad. It is located behind the left headlight. I had the same thing happen to mine and I sent it off and had it rebuilt for like $250.

actually now that i think of it i think it may have been called the dsc control unit. i just remember it was located behind the left headlight and can be accessed by pulling the headlight. checking the other components like suggested would be a good start though.

when mine went it made my vehicle go into trans fail safe mode from time to time. it seemed to happen when mine got warmed up. when i would first start up and take off everything seemed fine however after a short trip, about 15 miles home it acted up, like i said after it had warmed up. strangely enough at the same stop light every day until i pulled the unit, sent it off and had it refurbished. after that no problems.

ABS, DSC, BRAKE lights on...

Hi Collie and other members,

I have a 2003 X5 4.6is and seem to be having the same problems you had with your ABS module...

The ABS, DSC and BRAKE lights came on (and are now on all the time), no speedometer and the Transmission went into the failsafe program. twice, remaining in 4th gear until the car was parked and turned off.

My Indy mechanic (with his laptop and BMW diagnostic tools) ran several tests on the rear wheel sensors and seems convinced that the problem is a faulty ABS module.

We are not sure about the transmission issue... I am pretty worried considering the cost of replacing sensors, tranny, ...

ABS module: Dealer price is 3 000$ ++, Bosh replacement kit is like 1 500$...

Shoot... I am in Canada and wondering if I should give this BBA reman a try...

What do you guys thinks?

Thanks.

If your in Montreal I have a pretty reliable guy that works for a BMW dealership that does work at home and charges MUCH less than the dealership.
