changed out my oil filter housing gasket today way over do. Did an oil change and swapped in new zimmerman rotors. So far no more shakes when braking and i hope the housing isn't leaking :P , Next up valve cover gaskets and power steering suction hose then figure out my P014 sensor bank 1 heater code. I clear it and it comes back completely random could in 20 minutes or it could be in 2k miles

soldered three resistors (3.3 Ohms each) inside a trailer adapter from Wal-Mart (Hopkins 7 Blade to 4 Flat Adapter with LED Test Lights: Automotive : Walmart.com), each resistor to ground from the left, right signals and the tail light.

As a result, when the adapter is connected to the car, the computer thinks that a trailer is hooked up and therefore the rear PDC and the manual ride height are disabled.

Beneficial when a bicycle rack or a cargo tray are connected...

I still need to test this adapter when a REAL trailer is hooked up, but in 7 years I had E53 (two cars), I towed a U-Haul only once... So, we'll see when I get that chance to test it...

I just keep the modified adapter in the trunk, so I don't lose it when I need it for the tray or the bike rack...

That's pretty brilliant! Does the right side mirror still do the dip thing when in the trailer mode?

Amazing - I never knew about this "function"... but again, i don't tow much...

went to the car, fired it up, mirror switch to the driver's side, gear in reverse - the right mirror starts to tilt down (on mine it is stuttering, someting to add to the list of repairs);

mirror switch to the passenger side, gear in reverse, nothing...

connected the modified adapter, switch to the driver's side, gear in reverse, nothing happens;

still, with the adapter connected, switch to the passenger side, gear in reverse, nothing happens...

so, I would say that the mirror does NOT dip when the car thinks it is in trailer mode, which is achieved with the modified adapter...

Sweet! I was worried about having to line up to a trailer without the right-side mirror. I wondered if that was the case, but hadn't tried it. Thanks!

BTW, the mirror fix isn't difficult. Here's a DIY for it: http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...d-writeup.html

Valve stem seals done today

For all you guys that have that blue smoke coming out your exhaust because of your valve stem seals all i have to say is that i got them done from "bmwoem1".He's from long island and he's legit. my car feels so much smoother and no more smoke. i met him through the bimmerfest forums and i'm glad i did, he did the job for $2500. he's a BMW tech, very professional and does the job on the weekend from his house, i dropped it off on saturday morning and picked it up sunday afternoon. i just wanna thank him for giving guys like me an opportunity to get it done because this job is easy 5k and up. I will definitely be taking my car to him for future repairs.

interesting info... does he have a garage? or other means of getting in touch? that is good news for the folks in Tri-State area, close to Long Island... is this price available to anyone? or, anyone on the Xoutpost? or, maybe you have a secret handshake or something?... is there any guarantee? IO've heard that the repair will alst for another 80K miles, if done right - but what I am asking, the car will not fall apart going 80 MPH on NJ turnpike, will it?

PM for his info terminator.yes this price is for anyone, u can do your research on him from the bimmerfest forum. he recently had someone drive from ohio and stay at a hotel while the work was being done, he works at a BMW dealer in the tri-state area. funny u mention the warranty thing, i spoke to him about that and i told him if my car were to smoke within 6 months im coming right back to his house, he said no prob but this should easily last over 50k miles or more, hes done atleast 12 of them recently. and no the car wont fall apart, im telling u man, the car runs so much smoother, i live in yonkers which is about 45 min from him..put it like this, i picked it up at 2pm today and didnt get home until about 7, i was cruisin all over the place..car runs awesome.
