My 2004 X5 3.0 didn't after 100K miles and 7 years and neither has my mother in laws' 2001 with 77K miles. I would say the '04 4.8 hasn't either, but it only has 14K miles.

I thought that under ride guard wouldn't work on the 4.8. Or is that just the 'aero' package it doesn't work with? Are there instructions specific to the 4.8 or does it just bolt right on? That might go on the list of mods. Looks great!

Why would you believe it's not compatible with the 4.8iS? I believe there may be 2 separate (part #'s) guards for standard vs aero bumpers. It bolts the same for any E53...directly to the subframe but you'll need a couple extra hands for install.

I dunno. I saw a parts description that said it wasn't compatible with 'aero kit.' I wasnt sure that was the OE one that you can put on any E53 or the one for the 4.8. Maybe it's that big ole bumper bar thing that I am getting mixed up with?

Edit: What needs to be painted?

Ah HAH! It looks like my confusion might be clearing up! I think I am looking at TWO different parts- an under ride protection skid plate and a 'decorative skid plate' ! This thread may have led to the answer!

Off to do some searching!

This thing is a BEAST! Looking forward to continued education from this board.

The 2 main reasons I bought it were it was time for a "new" company car and section 179 Tax deduction for my company and I needed something to haul my E36M3 race car around the east coast to various race tracks. So I found a 4.8is with a factory hitch and a 900 lb. extruded aluminum Trailex 18 footer to drag behind me with track tires/fuel jugs, etc.

Next week it goes in for new thrust arm bushings, a "slight" brake adjustment and BSW Media Bridge for ipod/BT/Sirius.

Anybody know the BMW part # for the OEM Steering wheel "insert"? Mine is delaminating and needs replacing.

Obligatory TTIWWOP pics attached.

i replaced my steering wheel trim a few weeks ago. the part cost $70. I bought it from BMW dallas while I was there for business. Same part in toronto costs $140

PART NUMBER : 32306778412
realoem.com says the price is 52.83 but ofcourse bmw dealers jack up the price

RealOEM.com * BMW E53 X5 4.8is Sport st.whl.airbag-smart /Multifunction
