I knew that BMW SP cars were lower, but didn't know what BMW were doing on their SUVs when a sport suspension was installed. |

Not always though -- My 4.4i Sport with front/rear air suspension appears lower than other 4.4i sport package X5s w/o front air sus.

That may or may not be but the front/rear air suspension was a separate option from the Sports package. It provides self-levelling and height adjustment (three position) whereas the rear-only air was simply a self-levelling system.

The suspension on my truck is stock. I should be more specific and say that the handling gives me the same amount of confidence as driving an e36 m3.

if the 4.4 has air ride it will ride different and sit about 10mm lower
