Passenger door will not open

Hi Folks
I am not sure what is going on with the posting a new thread, I seem to be doing something wrong.

I am having problems trying to open the passenger door of my UK 2001 X5 4.4. Taking the daughter to school on Friday the door would not close. I cycled the locks and the door eventually secured since then I have not been able to open the door. I assume this is a broken door handle carrier, having already changed the the drivers side. But is there any way I can get this door open from the inside ?

Any help would be gratefully appreciated, I have obviously tried cycling the locks again and putting my shoulder against it, all with no joy. Both handles do not do anything.

Cheers
Paul

There is a thread on how to use a coat hanger or (metal piece otherwise) that shows you exactly where to put it to grab the inside and release the door. I saw the thread just the other day when searching so you should find it easily.

Paul, does the lock pin go up and down when you cycle the locks? If it does then its possibly your carrier. If not then it is the lock itself. See this thread.. http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...nger-door.html

Or, as o.l.t said above you may need to look at the excellent write-up by BrianX54.4is.. http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...-fix-pics.html

Good luck, let us know how you get on!

Hi o.l.t. & Isambard
Thanks for the quick reply!!
Yes all door pins go up and down, I will try the coat hanger approach, I have had a quick look at BrianX54.4is post and it looks very comprehensive. (Good job Brian).

I will keep you informed of the outcome.
THANKS!
Paul

Thumbs up Passenger door will not open

Hi All
A quick update... Brian's trick with the coat hanger worked beautifully I am 'well chuffed' (extremely happy). What was even better is that I didn't need any new parts just a simple lube (spray then grease) of all mechanisms, I didn't even take the carrier or lock assembly out of the door. I needed the Carsoft software to erase the Airbag error light once all replaced. Job well done !! The drivers side carrier I replaced a few months ago came with so little grease it is no wonder these items break especially in the winter. Thanks again for all your help!!

I have rumble from the Alternator so that will be next.. :-)
Cheers
