I had my mirrors stolen a week ago. Went to the main dealer today to see about replacing them. He said thieves don't bother unscrewing the bolts ... all they're actually after is the glass so they just pull the whole mirror off with brute force not caring if they break the covers.

That's insane.... the glass is really easy to remove with a simple screwdriver or wedge if you know how it hooks. I could pop the glass loose quicker and quieter than ripping off the mirror housing, seriously.

If the crooks were smart they'd be able to google search up how to remove the mirror glass rather than rip the whole thing off... I guess they didn't sell enough hot radios to pay for their internet bill.

Good DIY. I do have a slightly different problem with the mirror. I fixed the switch and both mirrors will open and collape(fold back) in sync. The problem I have is that one of the mirror will "lock" in place when it is in the normal position but a slight knock on it or if the door is closed a bit harder, the mirror unit will come lose as if the "locking" has been dis-engaged. I could press the button, collape and open it again to "lock" it is place but it will get lose again. I don't see anything been worn out on the mirror internals.

I haven't checked the internals yet, but I have the same issue, or very similiar.

EDIT...OK, I give up. How do you get the plastic mirror casing off?
