It's the audio visual input for the tv
you can input a dvd player or a playstation etc. On the tv you select the av station and what ever you input will be on the screen. However it will only show while your stopped and the sound is in mono. The AV out can hook up to external monitors and this output does not switch off while the x is in motion.
The cable I use is a camcorder cable with a 3.5mm jack plug which has the yellow (video) red and white (audio right and left) ends on it.
you could connect an mp3 player to it but the sound wouldn't be the best and it's done via the tv menu.
