electronics nightmare

I'm very dissapointed with the electronics in my X5.
I never experienced problems in the ownership of my past cars.
Self-level inact comes on once in a while, radio fm reception sucks

lls, air bag light just came on right after my wife opened and closed
the rear pass. door, parking sensors always beeping, dying pixels (worse
everyday), rattle every time I go over a bump (coming from the rear hatch?)..............and so on.....

I'm sorry about me venting, but I never had these problems with
my ML320.... Did I do the right thing buying a E53? (BMW)

Did you just buy it? Your details show a 2002 model, nine years old now. I would expect it to have more problems than a new one.

From the sound of the list, it needs a little maintenance.

A lot of the electronic issues you're experiencing, believe it or not, could come down to you simpy needing a new battery ...self-leveling, parking sensors.

The airbag light freaking out w/ the dome light coming on is somethinng people noticed on the 7 forums when they had big ass, heavy keyrings...does that apply to you? Does the key tumbler ever let you spin it around in a complete circle, or does it act odd when you wiggle the key?

FM reception could be just a loose connection on the backside of the deck. Is it aftermarket or stock? I've got an aftermarket deck and I just recently noticed that I get a slight fuzz in the radio reception when I have the rear defroster on, which is something I didn't notice w/ the stock stereo.

The rear hatch rattling, there are solutions for that on here. Welcome to a two piece tailgate. You've got a 10yr old car, things might be bound to happen.

I am also wondering when you purchased the X. Some of the problems you mentioned are inherent in BMW's. Did you do a PPI before you purchased? If so, some of these problems are very obvious upon visual inspection. I test drove an ML at a Lexus event and the SUV was literally falling apart when driven hard. Trim pieces were falling off, rattles, and a flat tire were reasons they removed the ML from the drive choices. There are others with X's in your year who have very few problems. Maintenance and service history are extremely important when purchasing a used BMW of any model. Hope you can get things sorted out.

Our x5 is an 05 and drives like new, no rattles, no missing pixels, no electronic issues (except for the occasional self-level susp. error, even after a new EHC, valve block, and new struts).

It has a new mechatronic unit too.

Aside from those two big ones (tranny mechatronic and suspension), it's relatively quiet and "healthy."

Last week my truck was having some major electrical critter problems.
The "self leveling inact..." would show up once in awhile, fm radio reception was really bad, remote key didn't work
all the time, and a few other strange things. So I decided I was gonna disconnect the battery for approx. 1/2hr. After
reconnecting the battery all the dash light indicators showed up on my cluster. I then turned the steering wheel all the way
to the left and then all the way to the right. Cleared up everything and my X drove amazing, no "self leveling inact...", no
radio problems, both keys worked great.....etc
Today everything went back to my first sentence.......
Do I have to do this reset procedure every week? Is there another way to reboot the whole system or is my X messin with me??

gonna keep my truck because the previous owner spent a lot of
money on her & that makes me smile knowing these little problems I'm
having will get resolved......I hope???....lol Thanks to you guys....................
