First signs of Transmission Problem.

Hello all,

So my lil' 2002 3.0i with 93k miles decided to show its first signs of transmission wear/problem. This morning while exiting from freeway I felt that hard 2nd to 1st gear "lurch". No warning on the cluster, so I kept driving. It did it again on deceleration from 2nd to 1st. It had never before given me any signs of gear slips or this type of "lurch". To my knowledge it has never had a trans fluid drain/fill (i'm 3rd owner, got her @ 80k). I know everyones case is different and going by the searches the first step would be to update the software. Any other recommendations?

Also, can someone tell me which trans I have.. ZF or GM?

Thank you in advance.

I think the 3.0's have GM's in them.

The 2-1 rough downshift isn't always indicative of trany failure. It seems to be an inherent trait of both GM and ZF trany's. After rebuilds, tunes, etc...the rough downshift will still present itself.

I suggest you have any faults checked as a start in your diagnosis.

yeah, at least with my ZF tranny, it was the mechatronic/valve block unit, not the tranny.
