![]() I'm getting my two stock mufflers removed and straightpiping them this coming weekend. I told the muffler guy that I want to keep the original tips. The original tips have two outlets which means that he needs to get the y-pipe on each one. He said that the y-pipes will cost $75 each. overall cost with labor is about $225. I live in LA so the cost varies everywhere, I guess. I think that's a good price... ![]() ![]()

I wouldn't straight pipe it. It's gonna be far too raspy and not sound good. Just my .02. I'm sure many others will agree

I think you need to make dual tips custom.. Then sell you stock mufflers for like $400-$500 .... = free custom set up.( 4.6/4.8IS mufflers is HOT item)

Hey Naz. I took out the resonator and x-piped it last year. unfortunately, the sound did not change at all. we'll see after the mod. I can always put the mufflers back on if I didn't like it... MrBMW, I was also told by my muffler guy that the stock mufflers are expensive. I'm gonna keep it for now in case I need to put it back on for some odd reason. Thanks gents.

Naz, what you're thinking of is replacing the resonator with straight pipes... that makes it raspy. Replacing the mufflers with straight pipes alone makes it louder, but not really raspy.
BUT with the mufflers replaced with straight pipes on top of x-pipe might be louder/more raspy than wanted... or could be just what he's looking for. I'm looking forward to sound clips/video either way. I still don't know when I'm going to be able to get around to my idea... Putting a magnaflow dual in dual out muffler (like this or this) in place of the resonator, and small resonators (open center/no restriction) in place of the mufflers (to keep it from being too raspy) with nice rolled edge dual tips on each side. I think that layout with the muffler in the center would sound good and throaty on these beasts rather than the mufflers way at the back.

I've got dual Magnaflow 14816's on my 7 and they sound amazing...not too loud, just a nice tone slightly louder yet similar to a slower revving E39 M5. I'd still like to put an x-pipe in the X since it adds just a little bit of change, which would be just enough for me in that truck.
