Don't worry. Yes, it is problematic, but keep an eye for problems and fix them when they appear, thats all. I drove mine all the time without a problem, I had to stop only once when the belt got off because bolt was broken due to hard hit somewhere. No lights are the thing. Just for the peace of your mind, I drove all summer with timings off, Old rear air suspension air bag, with faulty DSC Module, and somewhat scwred up tranny. Got back from sea trip fixed everything, no problem. |

You should really stick to 20" wheels, 22" will put the hurt on your braking performance. Not to mention the truck rides stiff even on 20".

If you don't buy the warranty, I would recommend setting aside some money in a bank account for repairs because you are likely to have more than a few at that mileage. Unfortunately, that is when things start going downhill. We bought our 02 4.4i with 65,000 miles and have had a TON of work done between 65,000 and about 100,000. Alternator, fuel pump, power steering hoses, radiator, thrust rod bushings, valve cover gaskets, motor mounts, window regulators, A/C work, valley pan gaskets, a couple other engine seals, etc. I bought the warranty and was very glad I did. I would estimate the work we had done under warranty at $8,500+.
I would strongly consider the warranty at your mileage if you are fairly certain you will put on more miles than the warranty covers. Otherwise, if you don't drive much and the warranty will more than likely expire on the number of years, I would start a repair savings account. The other factor is how much of the repiars you can do yourself. If you can't do that much and plan on taking the car to the dealer, the warranty starts to look better.

I strongly suggest getting an extended warranty. In two years of owning my X5 - I've had the well known transmission problems...And this repair alone makes the warranty worth the price.
