Door is jammed!!

Hi everyone! Thank goodness for this website; everyone on here makes it so helpful. I need to ask for some help (again). The rear passenger-side door on my 2003 X-5 will not open. I have the inside panel off, but I have not yet been able to determine how to open the door.

Has anyone had this problem or do you have any suggestions? If so, please help!!

Could the boden cable be broken ? Does the interior handle pull out ok but nothing happens ? I had this on an E34 a few years ago. Simple enough fix.

Thanks very much for your response. The interior and exterior door handles for this rear door were moving back and forth (with what appeared to be some pressure to them), however the handles would not engage to open the door. I attempted to override the handles by pulling directly on the cable (which caused the door latch to go upward), but the door would not open. The plastic cable connector does not appear to be broken on the side that attaches to the interior handle. It’s difficult for me to get a real clear view on the other side, but the cable (and connectors) do not appear to be broken on the side that connects to the exterior door handle, either. Additionally, it looks as though the cable is engaging the latch (i.e., causing the door latch to go up).

I don't think the child proof lock has anything to do with this. But, right now I'm abit stumped (as you can tell) about how to fix this.

Any thoughts, suggestions? Thanks very much!

mine got stuck once or twice, but then it opened by itself. I had a defective lock on that door which then I changed due to different reason(not unlocking with the key, and not locking or unlocking with the central locking). Don't know if this is any help, but...

Sounds like the door lock actuator has gone bad. Not too difficult to replace, but it can be a bit of a pita (I replaced the driver's side one on an E46M3). m3forums.net has a writeup in the E46 section, which should give you an idea of what's ahead for you...
