My BMW replacement rotors (from my dealer) came with a silver rust-resistant coating on the hub that my original OE rotors didn't have. The box was labelled with the details of the coating, and noted that it was new. Don't know when they changed, or if it is just replacement rotors, not originals. They never showed any rust while I owned them.

I'd only worry if the rotors didn't rust. The more you alloy the iron to prevent rust (ie heading in the direction of stainless steel), the poorer the friction qualities.

However, the hubs should be coated.

Yep, FSETH told me about these last summer and I used them, so far, 8 months later, black paint looks like new and no rust!

Glad you have been happy with them. I have had them on our X5 for a little over 3 years and nearly 40,000 miles and they still look pretty good. The black hats are not as shiny as they once were, but dull black with caked on pad dust still looks better than rusted out hats to me.

I've had Brembo rotors on my '03 3.0i since January of 2010, and have never seen this kind of rust. Kinda weird, cuz I figure it would be more humid down here in the south...
