Pointers on installing 4.6 kit
In the process of buying a 4.6 kit for my 04 X5 4.4i. I found the thread on how to install it, however I want to know if there are anythings I should be aware of or warned of. The kit will be used, so I'm not sure about the "self tapping" screws on the back piece. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. And if any members are in the area who have done this and are willing to lend a hand, dinner is on me...

Just use 3M Windshield Adhesive for the front ( the one made for Nascar used) and 5 or 8 self tapping screws for the rear ... or come here see me i put them on for you...(20min job).
BTW you're saving youself about $400 on paint job..

![]() Very straightforward with the rear install and only additional tip for the front is to ensure you use non-stretchable tape to ensure the front piece doesn't get out of place...

I fitted mine years ago,But of I remember,I used 8mm head screws x 10 mm long. The tricky bit to get perfect ,is the front! The sides need to be held tightly!I wouldnt rely on unstreched tape, you need to use a more unorthodox method and then leave it to glue overnight(using the sealant that mrbmwx5 suggested). Leave you a pic of mine to give you a tip ![]()

You dont need to remove the wheel well covers!Just remove the lower M8 screw on the inside and this will be enough for you to open it and put the vice grip in there. Btw,the wood beams in the pic are against a wall..and the jack is used to hold the spoiler up and the vice grip is to hold it tight against the bumper.I had to use this because I found that my front spoiler was sticking down and out on the sides... |
