The Trans Failsafe is a moderately common problem for some of us. I've had early problems with it (30k). It has now reared its terrible head again.. just yesterday. Three time now in 40h.
Last time (4 years ago) it was solved by replacing the MAF air flow sensor (13-62-1-438-871) and idle speed control (13-41-1-744-713). Some guys clean the MAF sensor with solvent and it clears it up. I'm taking it in tomorrow and just having them replace the darned MAF sensor. Not worth messing with. Got a 1000 mile trip coming up in 5 days time. |

A little more clarity about the ABS Brake warning light
Thanks Turn around for the response. From what I am gathering from my indy mechanic is that the Trans Fail safe is a result of a computer problem. What seems to be happening (according to him) is that the ABS/Brake warning lights illuminate. As a result, the computer can no longer read the speed sensors (thats why most of us with this sort of problem recognize that the speedometer is not working as well) therefor the computer automatically trips the car into a trans. fail safe mode.. Trans fail safe mode seems to be a result of a different problem. Mine just so happens to be that when I sit in traffic the ABS/ Brake warning lights trip on supposedly a computer module of some sort gets too hot and trips on the warning lights). Indy mechanic thinks it is a computer problem that can cost a couple of thousand bucks. Im hoping he is wrong. says it has something to do with replacing the ABS computer or ECM or something like that and having to have it synched. Apparently the only people who can synch it with the car is the dealers because they have the codes. My purpose for writing is that for those of you who have or had a similar problem...was it a computer issue (or something else) and if so how was it resolved? It seems apparent that this is a commen issue with a lot of you guys. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Check your battery and/or alternator. Your electronics will go crazy cuz of the lack of juice.

LBX5 I feel for ya Man... I'm going through the same thing, what engine do you have??? should be in your signature anyways. Brought My 4.4 to to the dealer last week they recommended that I change the abs module, It's being rebuilt right now. I'll let you know how it goes. you could simple unplug your module and see if TFSP goes away

R Mak you are absolutely right... so guys check your damn battery or perlace it completely. low power battery will trigger a lot of dash lights including all the above mention...

Thanks guys....will also check my battery. Although it does seem rather improbable as it never acts up unless it is warm weather. Cool weather temps no problem, warm weather then I could be simply idleing at a signal and the ABS brake warning lights trip on. My suspicion is that the others experiencing this problem tend to also be weather temp related.
