Yeah!!! Finally!!!! Oil Service!

My 2005 X5 FINALLY asked for an OIL SERVICE... the first one since I got it CPO in 2008!!!!

I thought it would ask for an Inspection (I or II) buy no. When I got to the dealership the SA asked me if I wanted the "full checkup" - by which he meant Inspection I. I pointed out to him that the service light indicated just OIL SERVICE. After conferring with a supervisor and checking out the car he agreed it just needed the oil change.

They did however note that the "thrust rod bushings" will soon need replacement.

Your X will absolutely love an oil change every 12,000km (7,500mi), especially if you wish to keep it in great shape over 100K.

That's what I thought... but each time I brought it to the dealer and they see green lights I'm told to come back when the yellow light is ON! I never imagined a dealer would turn down someone asking for service.

Can ended up going 29,000 highway kms - that's 18K miles.

I change mine every 7K miles or so on my own even though the service oil light doesn't come on. I plan on keeping mine for a while so preventative maintenance is what its all about.

Now THAT'S the secret to a long, enjoyable life with your X5! 98K and 7 years on my 2004 3.0 with transmission services, preventative fluid flushes, and of course, oil changes every 5K miles at most. We had a wonderful time together and that continues with the new owner- my next door neighbor.

The same is true with my mother in law's 2001 3.0. 75K miles and nary a whisper except a couple CV joints and a regulator or two. She had her transmission serviced at 50K.

As for the replacement, I couldn't be sure when the oil was changed when I bought the 2004 4.8is with 11,600 miles on it, so I changed it as soon as I could after the drive home- At 13k miles. Next is a brake fluid and cooling system flush- 15K. I figure that I'll do the transmission service at 25K and 50K for good measure.

Treat these things well and they'll do the same for you!

I know an oil change is due at least once a year even if there are still green bars left...
