Seems like they're always saying that about the MXV4s. So I just went somewhere else and bought them. The date on the tires which was a short time ago was current at the time.

I've had the Bridgestone - Dueler H/L Alenza on my 2004 and 2001 X5 and I thought they were a much better tire than the Michelins. Low noise, excellent wear - just a nice tire all around.

Talked to the guys at Costco... they only sell Michelin, BFGoodRich and Bridgestone. Even withing these brands, they only sell a few models.
The guys there were telling me that one of the best tires for the X5 is the "Bridgestone Ecopia EP422". Reviews seemed OK on TireRack.com and I was willing to get them but they are on back-order and I cannot wait for 3 weeks. They also said that the "Michelin MXV4 Plus" were discontinued (which is odd because their website shows that as an available option) and the direct replacement was another Michelin tire (I think it was the "Primacy" but I'm not 100% sure) which was $100 (per tire) cheaper. Didn't make sense. |

Here are the Bridgestone's I got from Tirerack.com. I had them delivered to my local Commercial Tire and they installed (when I had my 2001 X5 with 18" rims). $844 for a set of 4.
Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza I've also recently just gone directly to the Bridgestone/Firestone tire store when I got my 19" tires (before I sold the 2004), and they matched costco on price.

The one thing I've heard about the "Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza" is that they get a flat spot when the car has been parked for a while. The flat spot goes away after the first 3 miles of driving but the ride for the first 3 miles is fairly harsh. Is that true?

I've never experienced that at all. I had them on my 2001 X5 for 3 years before I sold it (with those tires) and never had an issue. I had them on my 2004 X5 with 18" rims for 3 years (before I upgraded to 19" rims with Bridgestone Dueler H/P Sport tires). They were always smooth and quiet, they wore really well, I liked the handling over the Michelin Energy tires that came initially on the car.
FWIW: We went to Bridgestone's on our past two 3 series cars to get away from Pirelli and Conti's which wore poorly and got progressively louder as they got more miles on them.

I was pleased to get 60K from my MXV4s (mostly highway), so I replaced with the same. Now at 90K on the odometer and plenty of tread left.

I would recommend that you try the Nitto tires, they are the best tires I have ever had on my X5, hands down. Their wet tire traction is amazing. Excellent dry grip and very quiet.

Continental Extremecontact DWS. Utterly silent and amazing traction. They're a bit sluggish at turn-in, but they'll grip as well as any other tire out there.
