An open letter to knowledgeable x5 owners
Hi people, I have been lurking around your site absorbing valuable nuggets of info since i first thought of buying an X5.I now own one and as a consequence you have another new member. "Hi" I have now owned mine for six months and loved it but now i am in need of some expert's knowledge regarding the bluetooth and phone prep side of things. before i continue let me please say that i have searched and searched for the answers i'm after to no avail. so please don't be annoyed at what might appear to be another new guy just asking questions without trying to search first because that isn't the case. Basically the car is an '02' 4.6is with (i think) COMMS pack and when i bought it, it had the 'eject box' for the motorolla v50 and various phone related buttons on the nav screen and wheel but as there was no phone present i assumed that was the reason why they weren't doing anything. anyway i recently bought a motorola v50 with bmw firmware and went to put it in the eject box and realised there was no cable to connect the phone to the car.So i lifted the arm rest and undid the panel to reveal that the cable had been cut so i removed the hand brake gaitor and centre console side panels to reveal the other end of the cable had been cut. so i did some more searching online and this led me to believe that there might have been (prior to my ownership) an aftermarket bluetooth kit installed as this is, i believe, part of the installation process. trouble is i don't know for definite if this is the case and this is all starting to get really confusing. I am now wondering what the car has in terms of phone prep/bluetooth prep as i don't actually have the options list that came from new. anyway long story short i just want to resolve this saga one way or another by one of the following means-find out if i have any phone prep etc or if those phone related buttons just don't do anything because that option was never ticked ( i find this unlikely as it has nearly every single option) -replace the wire to the eject box and get the motorola v50 working through the car. -or if it has had aftermarket bluetooth, learn how to use it. anyone with some experience who is feeling helpful want to shed any light on the situation? i know that was a bit of a long winded rant. thanks in advance P.S. i have since been doing more searching and thinking and it has come to my attention that i don't have a telephone option on my sat nav screen where it say gps, television etc. the previous owner 'updated' the sat nav with a new disc that allows for post codes to be used instead of full street names. Anyone done this or think this is a factor? Last edited by ADL-87; 07-21-2011 at 05:28 PM. |
