front shacking at 55-70 mph ,balance problem? help...
i am trying to find out my problem with the wheel steering shacking at 55-70 miles per hour! the wheel steering goes little left and right when driving at that speed!, so here is the story again,: i did about 2 weeks ago buy new tire from a shop ,they install the new tires and balanced them, few days later did the alignment (somewhere else) and after few days driving here and there at 55 up the wheel steering have a play in my hand right and left... so i went back to the place that put my tires and did the balance, and they check it again and they told me that ya the balance was not good in front , and also this time they said that my rim in driver side rear is bent, and i am like "what?" last time they did not told me that..what is this? ,i did not hit anything in those 2 weeks ,and why they did not found that the first time when they did the balance!? now today i feel again the same problem with the shacking ,in front ,but i did not have this problem when i had the old tires!!!, can some one tell me maybe the wights from the balancing failed down maybe? or is coming from the rear? because of that bent rim?,this just cant happen within 2 weeks!,bending that rim... can anyone have a idea what should i do? thanks,

If it is a rear wheel (bent, or out of balance) you will usually feel it more in the seat than the steering wheel.
Yes, weights can fall off. They may have not noticed a bent rim if they weren't looking for a problem. If the tires aren't round, it doesn't matter how well they balance them, they will still shake. That can happen, particularly with inexpensive tires. The tire store you dealt with should be able to balance them. If they can't, I would go to another tire store and pay to have them balanced. Look for a shop that has a balance machine called a Road Force balancer, it is more sophisticated than a simple balancer.

LOL welcome to the club!!!
here is my thread dealing with the same exact thing... http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...ons-still.html here is another: http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...ntrol-arm.html so others and I still have not figured out why after installing new tires there is vibrations. I personally have swapped out for a second set of tires and had only put 4K miles on the 1set and they were goodyears then i got Michelin thank god for warranty. |

ya,thanks friend.
thanks for pointing those treads! well my wife she driving the x5 to work, and she told me that it does it again. but when i did the last wheel balance, last saturday,i was on some streets went up to 60/mph ,then on the freeway 50 to 70,80 mph and i did not notice anything anymore...,then after that like i said my wife she drove the x5 and now she's saying that it does it again!,,so i need friday sometime to take the x5 for a test my self to see it. also from all the info that i have read in the forums here ,,i was thinking maybe the shop that did my balance they my have a standard wheel balancer machine ,old and not calibrated!!! who knows! ,is just a small shop.,and also the machine has the screen with the red numbers,,so i guess is really old... i also have called the place that did the alignment and they said for 67$ they will do a test drive to see the problem, also for those e money lifetime for balancer and rotation for life of the car (at firestone),and i have asked what wheel balancer brand they use,and they said the latest of "hunter wheel balancer" and also he said that wights may come off,or even the new tires to be bad!,so... i guess i have to start somewhere.... thanks
