Clime Control Dead

Hi all,

I have a 2003 x5 4.4i automatic which I had given to my friend to use for a while. He returned it to me with the climate control dead.

The condition of the climate control is that when i say dead i really mean it, its dead no turn on of lights, no turn on of screen and even the buttons when i press them they feel like they are stuck in "in" position, they don't move at all.

When I turn on the car and the lights, all the buttons inside lit up except for the buttons on the climate control. I asked him what had happened and he just said he never used the ac so he doesn't know.

i was wondering what could be the possible problem and what is the best way to go about diagnosing this. I live in the UK by the way.
