I just changed my tranny oil and filter, I used ESSO/Mobil LT71141 from Bavauto. The drained oil appeared to be OK a little dark but the lubricity appeared adequate, I did not have any issues with the tranny prior to the oil change. It's been a week now after the oil change with no issues and shifts very smoothly.

Dannyell, I do not believe it was anything you did with servicing the tranny at 100,000 miles that resulted in a failure at 150,000 miles, I think it was just a coincidental part failure. However, does the diff show any sign of external impact?

The OPs failure pics show the conical fracture line is smaller to the inside of the diff case then the outside, understanding how cast iron fails will lead to a conclusion that the case was broken by an INTERNAL impact, (diff ass'y component failure).

My post is about the differential...the title hasn't been changed but maybe it should have been.. its confusing. lol

My reverse problem is an old issue, has nothing to do with changing the fluid, on the contrary it helped.

I just wanted to update on what exactly went wrong...

The diff definitely an internal problem...but lack of diff fluid not one of them

Did the shrapnel take out anything else? Hoses, and the like?

I'm wondering if this failure is related to the front driveshaft in any way....
