Transmission Blew...

Well she finally gave up at 145k miles...

I was going about 70 on the highway, heard a light noise and after that a big bang which felt like I hit an imaginary wall. Good thing my seat belt kept me in place.

No warning lights whatsoever, just burnt smell and fluid all under the car.

Will start looking into rebuilt it.

You know that's going to hurt!
Will you rebuild yourself or use a reman from a national chain?

Still weighing in the options. Right now I'm looking to rebuild it myself...just need to figure out how much time it will take me, since I really have weekends and week nights to work on it.

Fluid everywhere? Did the trans housing fracture? Big bag at speed and fluid leak can be transfer case chain failure too.

Having trouble uploading pics, anyhow hopefully they work so you guys can see what I have done to my front differential...

I have some more pics, but just haven't gotten around to them on the camera.

Not sure what exactly happened, no oil was leaking prior to this, I did work on the car a few days before the diff blew replacing some control arms / brake lines etc...and everything looked good.

My apologies for taking so long to post a few lines , just always busy with work...

Sorry to hear about that. Just curious, have you ever changed the fluid in it? Also what would you call your driving style?

Thanks,
Cyrus

Ouch, sorry to hear that. It is an expensive repair, whether you do it or someone else.

Did you ever do any automatic transmission fluid change? If yes, OEM or other fluid?

I'm planning on doing mine this weekend.

It was ok, found a front diff for $250 off a rear ended 01, looked good enough for me.

As I said above for the tranny I used OEM from bavauto or rmeuropean sites. It made my reverse slip less, so it helped a little bit
